The main reasons why we (and many others) use Linux are:

• The Linux kernel, and the application software that runs with it, are usually free (including office applications).
• Linux is more stable (our Linux servers run continually for months without crashing!).
• Linux is more secure (there are less critical vulnerabilites, and it is not affected by viruses/worms etc targetting Microsoft Windows).
